Make Money Blogging
Written by Jami on March 19, 2008 – 12:23 pm -Another work at home job that I definitely want to post about would be blogging for money. Now there are two main ways to do this. You can start your own blog from scratch and later add ways to make money to your blog or you can try to get a job writing for a pre-existing blog where you would probably be paid as an independent contractor. The latter will probably require previous experience blogging.
To start a blog you can use a free blog hosting service such as Blogger which provides everything you need to get started. It’s a user friendly application and walks you through all the easy steps to get started. This won’t cost you a thing. That is where this blog started out. You can view its remains at http://www.truelifemoms.blogspot.com.
Your other option would be to purchase a hosting plan and a domain name and use blogging software such as Wordpress. That is what I currently use for this blog. Wordpress is free to use and has a ton of options and add-ons. I recommend this for the serious blogger who wants to make money from their blog.
Next, you will need to decide from a few options. The main 2 ways to make money from a blog would be to run ads on your blog or be paid to post about certain things in your blog.
To run ads on your site you can go through an affiliate program, who will connect you with different advertisers such as Commission Junction or Linkshare. I signed up with both of those companies but have not made anything yet. I recently discovered Pepperjam, which is quickly growing into my new favorite affiliate program. These affiliates often pay you a percentage of any sales made through the ad on your site or a flat rate lead fee, such as a sign up on the website.
One of the most popular ways to make money on blogs is Google Adsense, where you place different text ads on your website and get paid per click. Text-Link-Ads is a program similar to Adsense as well, from what I understand. You can sign up with companies such as AdToll and Project Wonderful that will sell your ad for you for a percentage of the fee. Another option would be to sell your ad completely on your own using Ebay or any other method.
Once you have had your blog for a while and established a steady stream of unique visitors coming in daily you can try writing posts for money. Companies will pay you to post about a particular topic or review a certain product. My blog is not yet old enough to do this but I am already researching this for the future. Two companies that I have found are Review Me and PayPerPost. Review Me claims to pay between $20 and $200 per post, which is the highest that I have seen. PayPerPost will pay $20 for your first post.
I am sure there are some other ways to make money blogging but these are the most straight forward and easy to accomplish that I have seen. This info is only my opinions and research though. I will definitely keep you posted as I journey through trying to make a little bit of money with this blog, at least enough to pay for the hosting and domain name. Thanks for sticking with me as I learn the ins and outs of blogging!

10 Signs a Work at Home Job is a Scam
Written by Jami on March 17, 2008 – 12:19 pm -
There are definitely some red flags that often prove that a job is a scam. If you see a job that has one or more of these I would definitely stay away and whatever you do, don’t give them any money, your social security number, or any banking information.
- The company emailed you out of the blue and you didn’t apply for the job or contact them in any way.
- The company is trying to prove something by adding words like legitimate or guaranteed to their business name.
- The email address is from a free email account such as hotmail, aol, yahoo, or gmail.
- You can’t find any information on them at www.ratracerebellion.com, www.workplacelikehome.com, or www.wahm.com.
- They don’t have any other contact information besides an email address.
- They hire you without an interview or reviewing your resume.
- The job description says “No Experience Necessary”.
- It’s a pyramid scheme of any type where you recruit others to work under you.
- The job title is vauge or includes the words rebate processor, data entry, stuff envelopes, home assembly, process claims, or anything of that nature.
- The job simply sounds too good to be true.
Because a job falls under one of these doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a scam but it definitely means you need to be careful and do a ton of research on them.

Tech Jobs for Work at Home Moms
Written by Jami on March 9, 2008 – 12:24 pm -
One of my daily habits is to check out the work at home job leads listed on several different sites, including Rat Race Rebellion. I’m not actively looking to apply at the moment but if something interesting comes up I definitely want to be the first to know about it. Anyway, I try to take note of the trends, such as which work at home positions seem to be cropping up more and more.
Lately the jobs I have seen over and over are web designers, programmers, and graphic designers. There seem to be endless work at home opportunities for those in this field.
I once took up a notion that I wanted to be a web designer so I took a few online courses through Ed2Go. I highly recommend them by the way for busy moms. They have a huge variety of courses and learn at your own pace. Another interesting online school is Sessions Online School of Design . After getting the basics of web design down I realized I needed to know A LOT more than just the basics. At that time I decided that this wasn’t the right opportunity for me to start learning web design, with a toddler running around and trying to start work on my bachelor’s degree. I really want to get back into it after I finish my degree though.
Anyway the point of this post is, the work at home job market is definitely going to have endless opportunities for those in the tech fields in the coming years. If you are unsure of your career path this is definitely a direction that would be smart for anyone to go in. The men have dominated this area too long. It’s time for women to join the technology and internet world.

Ty’s Blog
Written by Jami on March 7, 2008 – 12:24 pm -
Well I’ve been doing a lot of research lately on how to promote this blog. The way I see it, I’ve got a lot of good info that can help other work at home moms and I just want to spread the word. After searching for a helpful website or blog I finally found one with info that I can use.
Ty’s Blog is filled with all the info on how to promote your blog and bring traffic to it. I really have found a ton of helpful hints and the number of visitors to my blog is growing daily thanks to the info that I have found.
Another cool thing is that Ty is having a contest where he is giving away 2,000 Entrecard credits and a review of the winning blog plus a permalink on his blog. I respect this guy’s ability to help others and get traffic to his site successfully so I decided that I would enter. Plus, I just love Entrecard! Here’s a link to the contest: TysBlog.com’s Entrecard Credit Contest. Wish me luck!
Definitely go check out his blog if you have a blog yourself. He’s done all the research on how to successfully run a blog so you can sit back and watch your numbers grow.

Other work at home companies I’ve worked for
Written by Jami on February 29, 2008 – 4:52 pm -I’ve done quite a few different work at home gigs and just wanted to say a few words about them.
West - This is an inbound phone job. They used to hire independent contractors and now only hire employees. This meant that my wage would go to the min. wage in VA which is going up soon but was low at the time of conversion. I decided it wasn’t worth it to me. They hired me with no telecommunications experience though and it was a great foot in the door. I took calls for Sears Home repair(awful!), ShopNBC(fun calls), and a few other lines I didn’t stick with.
Liveops - This is also an inbound phone job. The second company I applied for. They hired me with no experience in the field as well. Liveops has a great network of technology and paid 25 cents a minute for direct response calls. Direct response is the infomercials that you see on tv. I took calls for all kinds of workout gear, kitchen appliances and more. There was a huge script to read and you had to attempt to sell the cust all kinds of upsells, magazines, and more. This got very frustrating and after 60 days(I think) of inactivity my account was disabled. I recently reapplied to give it another go. There is a $30 background fee for this company, but they are legit. This is the only instance I would recommend paying to work.
VIPDesk - This is mainly an inbound phone job. I was actually a chat customer service rep for this company which was my dream job. Or so I thought till I started. I worked for a high end clothing website. We sold all the designer brands. It seemed that all the customers I spoke with in chat were purposly trying to frustrate me. After VIP decided to switch us to doing 3 chats at one time I lost my cool and could no longer do this job without getting totally stressed. There were too many managers and none of them seemed to care about my concerns so I left. The pay with this company was excellent. It was also hard for me to keep up with the 25 hour a week minimum. My husband works shiftwork and I refuse to use a babysitter.
Others - I’ve tried Associated Content(probably made about $50), survey sites(MySurvey is the only one worth my time), and have spent countless hours checking into other things.
I’m onboard with Fingerlakes and have bunches applications in with other places so we’ll see what happens. I should get my logins soon for Liveops to give them another try.
It’s always a continual quest for me to keep searching for the next best work at home job. I’ll never rest until I find the perfect one for me. I’m thinking of trying transcription. I can type at like 80 WPM so who knows. I applied for Tigerfish and they supposedly hire people with no experience so I’ll keep you posted.
All info here is my opinion only! Please don’t count out a company based on what I say.

The Truth About Rebate Processor Jobs
Written by Jami on February 27, 2008 – 12:23 am -I get emails sent to my Yahoo email daily about being a rebate processor and how much money there is in it. Well I finally found somebody that has signed up for this and can explain in detail why they are scams. Gotta love the guinea pigs willing to try stuff so we don’t have to!
The article is located at the I’ve Tried That blog. Their motto is “We lose money so you don’t have to!”. You can find the rebate processor article here.
This is a really cool blog that is helping a tremendous amount of people. Show them your support by linking back to their blog or sending them some thankful comments. They really deserve it for putting themselves out there like that.

Success w/ Ticketpuller.com!
Written by Jami on February 26, 2008 – 5:25 pm -Well about 2 weeks ago I ran across a post at WAHM that talked about TicketPuller. I was instantly curious so I went to the website and signed up to check it out. I was very skeptical at first but it sounded fun.
Basically what you are doing is pulling tickets through Ticketmaster and a few other websites for this company. You let them know which tickets you have pulled up and they will tell you to buy them or ditch them. They give you a login to ticketmaster that has all their payment info already attached. You don’t have to pay any money to do this. If you are chosen to buy tickets you will be paid 5% to start of what the tickets sold for. There is a risk that your tickets could be cancelled as well so this is not a guaranteed payday at all but a way to make a bit of extra cash.
So far I have made $40.63 and have had that money deposited in my account. I have more coming to me hopefully once the length of time that they can be cancelled passes. It’s not much money but quick and fun so I recommend everybody check it out. They have a waiting list but are bringing on new people so definitely sign up ASAP. Please put my name in the referal spot. My name is Jami Peters, also put liljami95 which is my username. Hope you check it out!
Here is the post that I came across at WAHM. Click here to view post.
